Ahh it seems like forever!!

But in NJ we have "GEPA" (Grade Eight Proficency Test) next week so I'm sort off glad because I don't want to stay up late during the four day testing.

Ugh! I kinda have those too, but they're called the MEAP. They still sucks. Thank god I don't have then right now!

Pretty much every state has those standardized tests. Ours are called the PSSAs. Are you required to pass those standardized tests to graduate from high school?

Mine are only the middle school level since I'm only in seventh grade, but I don't think you need to pass them to graduate. I think it's just to show the state how well the schools are doing. I know that the private schools don't do them though.
IrishEyes
Private schools don't have to do a lot of things public schools do. They don't even need to be in school the same amount of days. This is partly because they can be privately funded and they don't need to worry about money from the government.
Olivia33
Yeah, I like going to public schools though. I think you get just as good of an education.

puplic schools are nice but i live in baltimore and all high schools here are about to wear uniform and some are closing down. baltimore school systems suck
IrishEyes
It all depends on where you are located. I used to teach in DC and there are many public schools I wouldn't step foot in. I am not knocking public schools, I teach in a public school. Maybe I am partial to private schools because I went to private schools from first grade through twelfth grade. But you are right you can get a great education in a public school.
Olivia33
Yeah, i've gone to a public school all my life. My schools were great. Yeah, there are plenty of schools that aren't very nice at all. I'm probably just used to going to a public school probably.

The GEPAs are a test to see how well the district is doing and also to help place students into classes for high school according to their scores on the specific areas on the test. Then in high school there is the HSPA (High School Proficency Assesment) which is taken during junior year. This test needs to be passed in order to graduate.

Boy, do I hate these!
