I was looking through the contestent interviews this morning and saw that Miss ex-beauty queen Melanie actually admitted to having her dog put to sleep just because he bit two people! Ok, first of all...that type of dog is not huge and threatening. Second, maybe he did not like those people and needed a new owner instead of a first class ticket to heaven with the date chosen by Melanie. You would think an ex-beauty queen would have been educated in the act of being tactful when it comes to interviews and the media.

Animal lovers everywhere will cringe when they read that bit Melanie!

Or it may be that the persons bitten or their parents may have insisted on this; or God forbid, even the law! Maybe Melanie herself didn't want it to ever happen again.

Being a beauty queen has nothing to do with having to make such a heart wrenching decision. Many people have to make that decision everyday and I neve never heard of a vet factoring in the owner's looks in the consideration of what to do.

having had family members that were bit by a family dog. I can understand having the dog put to sleep. If it had already bit 2 people there may have been something wrong with the dog. I love animals but if they hurt someone then I can completely understand where she was coming from.

I agree that Melanie being an "ex-beauty queen" has nothing to do with uncontrollable life decisions. I am not sure why she is being referred as an ex-beauty queen as much as she is - she was in two pageants in an effort to earn scholarship money to pursue her career as a musician and these are only a small part of her long list of accomplishments. The fact that she chose to discuss this in her interview was likely because it was a VERY painful and important decision she was forced to make. Melanie was born a animal lover. She loved this dog to the point that she took it everywhere she went. The dog was in fact a risk to others and she faced the risk that it would seriously injure someone, especially a child. Whether or not her statement will make animal lovers cringe is irrelevant. The fact that she made the decision to put her dog to sleep shows the degree of compassion she has for people and her ability to make mature decisions. We will give the person who posted this message the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was not written out of ignorance but rather an effort to bring negative attention to other contestants. I have seen that many people on this board are making judgments about people they do not know based on a few second clips and interview statements. It was my impression that this message board was for dedicated country music fans who would support those who have the courage to follow their dreams.

In response, Melanie is being referred to as an ex-beauty queen so often because that is how Nashville Star is describing her. While this is true, there is nothing wrong with being a beauty queen and I never intended on it sounding that way.

What I did say is that she might want to learn to filter her comments a little more (which she might have learned in pageant work) because unfortunately the public does NOT know her personally and likely never will. The public is who votes, whether they know the whole story or not.

That is just part of the competition. Some things are better left unsaid. Just look at how the media and the public saw Tamika last year after the show edited her comments to Erica Jo.

Even the best spin doctor (publicist) cannot honestly turn that quote into a comment showing Melanie at her best and most compassionate.

And, by the way, it was not a post due to ignorance. It was a post due to passion. I am an educated person who believes the only being permitted to take life (whether it be human life or animal life) is the Creator himself, for he created the animals just as he created us. I am sorry if you don't agree...as I am sure many people don't.

Good luck to Melanie and all of the other contestants this year! It's great that people are already so interested and passionate about everyone involved!

I think they are playing her off as the "ex-beauty queen" in order to make her one of USA's Characters.

Come on people. Are you jealous because she is absolutely gorgeous or that she made a painful decision that could have possibly saved a childs life? One thing has nothing to do with the other and if your child had been bitten by her dog you would in court with a lawsuit... Not complaining about her making a decision that benefited everyone around and involved. That is just ridiculous. Besides, she is not on Nashville Star to be a an activist for anything except Country Music, her dream and above all her God given talent. People are so shallow and jealous it is unreal. Come on lets focus on reason for this show and not bash people with our own thoughts. I know Melanie personally and she is a great person. This is just crazy. I guess you are saying this decision makes her less of a country music singer, huh? Not hardly.... Melanie, you look over the negative and focus on the positive the people that know you love you and respect you. We are pulling for you from beginning to end.
