I was just checking out regional finalists websites and Kristen McNamara's website has an oficial post stating that she is one of the finalists on Nashville Star this season. Check it out at www.kristenmcnamara.com I saw this girl at regionals and she is very talented. I know we all have our favorites but I think she'll definately be in the top three. Good luck Kristen!
Lucymac
It does say that on her site, which is rather strange since it was my understanding they weren't allowed to tell anyone yet.
crittergal
I guess it's o.k. now?
crittergal
When you go to her site click on the Nashville Star link.
Pop
Nope, according to the producers and everyone concerned with the show, I'm sure that "it's not alright." It would be ashamed for her to be removed from the show because of an overly zealous webmaster....

Hmmmmmm? I'm sure it would not be on her site if they didn't get the o.k. She seems to be very professional and it sounds like her camp has had enough experience to know better than that. Maybe other confirmations will start popping up? I hope so!
Pop
Well, I used the email addy on her website and sent her an email asking about that...
crittergal
Alrighty then Pop. I'll check back and read about anything you find out.

I just went on there and that is what I saw too!

Okay, I got a reply from my inquiry...

Hi POP:

The Webmaster got overly excited and put that statement on my new website before I even sang at the Wildhorse. It is a new site, and they were frantically trying to get things going. I told the producers about it a while back. Also the webmaster took the statement down.

So they got busy after I sent them the email, I guess... But what I quoted was on there earlier...
Bonnie
At the risk of seeming cranky - but I am not really - we did have the discussion right about the 12th?? And Kristen said the exact same thing then about an over zealous webmaster, yada yada.... I guess now they finally got on it and fixed it LOL!!

Yep u r correct.

I can tell you what was there and it move off pretty darn quick tonight...

The over zealous webmaster/writer also sucks big time on the webpage... It's terrible for a dialup users like you & I and a whole lot of others on here. It's not Kristens fault about the site but more and more people will be trying it out after the first airing of the Finals...

Hi, Guys:
Let me introduce myself. I am co-owner of GrooveFX Design Studios and the over zealous webmaster <G> for Kristen. In case you wonder about my username, I also drum professionally here in Nashville for several artist including Steve Holy, ... and have played several times for none-other than Shawn Patrick McGraw! (and man ... he rocks!)
We strive to build high quality, state-of-the-art websites for our clients. Most of our clients are artists, so they want multi-media driven, artsy websites. National Statistics say that 85% of web users are now on high-speed dial up or cable internet connections. (and we are lagging behind Europe in that transition!)
I apologize for those that still do not have access to high speed. Heck, some folks still don't get cable or high definition TV (but the government has mandated that all sets be HDTV soon!).

Regarding claims on Kristen's site that she is a finalist on Nashville Star. I fear that there has been some misunderstanding regarding this. We (the webmasters) were simply referring to the fact that she was one of the 40 finalists that was to have performed back at the WildHorse Saloon. We were encouraging folks to vote, ... IN CASE she makes it!
I admit that originally this verbage may have seemed confusing. We have changed it to end that confusion.
No official announcements have been made regarding the final 10 and we are making no claims about that either.
We find out ... when you guys find out!
In the meantime, we are praying that Kristen *is* one of the finalists, and should she be, ... that you guys will vote for her!

I thank you for letting me clarify this situation for you!

Sincerely,
Dendy Jarrett

Dang ya'all! I about had a heart attack from excitement thinking the final ten were finally being announced and I would find out for sure about a certain somebody else, only to have my hopes shot down! LOL Oui! Mon Dieu! I already did my aerobics tonight and got a good enough work out from that! I didn't need my poor old heart worked up even more! LOL Well, I guess we sit and wait a while longer, huh? Don't you just hate it when you start thinking you have a confirmation, and then it's a false alarm? Pooey! I'm going back to bed! LOL Night All!

Wow, so just go ahead and thumb you nose at those of us that do not have the ability of the highspeed. Might I refer you to one site of many that gives the viewers of the website a choice on the first paint. www.tayalear.com I know of others but off hand, just cannot recall the url's. Give the "high speed" gang (Bonnie, Highlander, & the other 85% of the forum) their "artsy-fartsy" side of the website and the rest of us under speed connectors - just the facts with non "artsy, i.e. flames all over the page".

I'll also bet you that your target audience IS NOT CONNECTED via highspeed connections. There are millions & millions in highrise buildings and business that connect via highspeed and have never heard of Nashville Star, www.CMT.Com , etc. So you just might want to rethink that 85% that you so proudly toss out to your "clients".

Build you sites for the actual users/viewers/surfers of your webpage.

Just telling it like it is... 85% of web users are on highspeed is really misleading. I'm still betting that the actually individual users of the internet are not 85% on highspeed. Discount all the business users and you take away a vast majority of connections. Take out the major cities around the country, Pfffst there goes another major connection count. Oh, we can count on *~Han~* to help the count in Europe, not sure about CountryStarBob. But that 85% figure is just so wrong.... OH, I say take away the major cities because I'll be you that you could walk down the sidewalk in NYC, LA, Dallas, Chicago, etc., ask a 100 people if they watch NashvilleStar, know who Buddy Jewel is, know who Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert are, etc and you wouldn't have 15 people say yes, much less 85 people yes affimative....

Thanks Pop never thought of that...we are about to revamp my daughters site and that is something I never thought about. You are right about people not knowing Miranda Lambert or Buddy Jewel but they would know who Carrie Underwood is. Still you are right, our target audience may not have high speed and that is something we need to take into consideration. If you want to check out the old site it's www.deirdrehughes.com
Her site hasn't been updated for a while, but that will change soon.
Thanks!

I have high speed and I still don't like the razzle dazzle sites. Been there, done that, seen better (no matter how good) and don't wish to hunt through all the pyrotechnics to find the info. I want. To all webmasters: People do not come to an artist's site to find out how many "kewl" tricks you can put on a page. They come for information about the artist. If webmasters wish to advertise their skill, put up your own dang sites.

I agree...I'm on dial-up at home. My office has the high speed though (which is where I do most of my surfing - he,he).
I'm thinking about getting high speed at home though since I can write off the cost as a business expense...Mostly because I'm used to the speed when I'm at the office, and then I get frustrated when I'm at home.
Thanks Pop!

I'm still a little confused. Because a few days ago Kristen's website said she was one of the "42 regional finalists" and last night it stated that she was one of the finalists and that we should call in and vote for her? Personally, I think she made it on the show, otherwise she would have let us know she wasn't on the show as other contestants have. Good luck Kristen! You've got my vote!

That's my status, to far from a central office and no cable out this far. I cannot go with the expense of the satellite hookup that DirectTV offers...

Hear here WVG!! My sentiments eggsactly. I have a blazing 2MB cable modem connection, and I'm sitting here waiting for the stupid intro on Kristen's site to finish loading. My apologies to her web designer, it's not all his fault as alot of artists want a site that looks "hip and cool", but they often overlook the practical issue that people don't feel like spending 5 minutes (in Pop's case lol) or even 15 seconds waiting for a "flashy" intro.

Also I think it's important to cater to dialup dinosaurs, especially in country music... this is COUNTRY... meaning alot of listeners live in the real country, like Pop does, where high speed isn't available or is too pricey. I'd estimate that my current TX mailing list of people I've met at gigs/dancehalls is like 1/3 dialup. I try to keep my homepage fairly easy for them to load, altho it's not as quick as I'd like it to be... so I'm looking into doing some changes there when the new album comes out in March.

O.k. everyone. Let's face it dial up is a thing of the past. I know some of you can't get in because of where you live and some just can't afford it, but the rest of the world has moved on. I know it's tough, but you'll get over it. I went through the same thing when cassett tapes were being faded out CD's were being introduced. I didn't want to give up my tapes! I'm sure soon there will be an affordable and more accessable way to get high speed internet. Hang in there, it will happen.

Here here! I live in rural Alberta where cable is just something rolled onto a spool...so it's either dial-up or smoke signals - and I have yet to master those!!
Highlander
Hey Pop,

I hope you know I was not taunting you or others using the "dial-up dinosaur" connection. I am just excited about having DSL. I remember trying her site with dial-up a few weeks ago and giving up. I did not have the time to wait, so I agree about the need for a low and high speed alternative for her site.

I don't think you are really grasping the whole picture here. For those who live in the real boondocks, we're probably several years (at best) away from any viable high speed option. For those who chose not to spend the extra for high speed, I doubt the money tree is gonna take root. For those of us who have used high speed for years, there's no need for all the glitz. It's annoying.

I think they posted the news too soon and are trying to cover their tracks. I saw it before they changed the site and it did say she was one of the finalists and was looking for support on this board and on the show. Since announcing it too soon makes her subject to getting bounced off the show, I think they are simply covering their tracks now.

I'm with you on this. And for some of the people that don't have high spped it's simply because it's not a priority for them. They have other ways they would rather spend their money and just plain don't spend that much time on a computer.

I have highspeed and also get annoyed where there is too much razzle dazzle and flash components on a site. Sometimes it literally is all flash and no substance. You really don't want potential fans to get turned off before they even find what they were looking for.

You've got to be kidding be with that attitude. You have no idea what the real world is or happens to be. You don't have to tell me to "Hang in there, it will happen," because I've seen more happen in my life than I'm sure that you will ever experience. Several of us on here have gone from "partylines" to phones in our shirt pocket. From vinyl 78rpm records to the ability to select and carry 5,000 tunes in the same pocket with the phone. I've seen screw worms be eradicated, hay go from square bales to round rolls (for general feeding), so you really don't have to tell me anything about "Hang in there, it will happen." I'll tell you that people with your type of attitude really pizz me off.... I can afford cable - I can afford dsl/highspeed -- neither are available where I live and by-golly I live way way out in the country, an actual 6 miles on a major east/west US Highway.

But the whole object of this discssion is that the webpage writers are jamming to much jizz on their webpages, it does not help or impress actual users. I'm sure that you are telling everyone that you know about how jazzy & flashy that Kristen's website is, instead of tell someone about the content of the website. The content is what is important and not the flashy flames. This site is so sorry that as Kristen told me, "my parents are on dialup and they cannot get the site to open for them" (paraphrased) Maybe if she wins NashvilleStar and with the proceeds from her first "platium selling CD", she can afford to hook her "poor ole folks" up to a highspeed connection.... eventhough it might not be available without the antenna pointed towards the moon and beyond....
crittergal
Woa... I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm just saying that technology will continue to move on and in the entertainment business, it's all about what's newer and better. By the way, I grew up listening to records too. I'm no spring chicken. Peace everyone
ShawnJ
Hey Pops and all others on dial-up or slower connections,

FYI - Kristens other link at:

http://home.comcast.net/~amuletmusic/pages...color-->

has basically all of the same info as her official site but has none of the "flash."

Some other cool artists there through the main page, too.
fenderbender
Many webmasters will be considerate and offer different versions of their site for different connection speeds. Also a way to turn off or skip the Flash is usually offered. This one doesn't seem to care much about that sort of consideration. (The web designer's homepage is similar in that you only get the Flash version) I didn't feel the extra stuff really added much to Kristen Mac's site.

You got rid of your cassette tapes????? Heck, I held on to mine and still play them, right along with my CD's! I even listen to records sometimes still! Oh my....records???? Yes, I do! LOL Who says you have to let go of the old when you bring in the new? They can work together! Of course, the whole dial-up issues and cable modem issues and such is a bit different. However, I do believe websites should cater to both since there is still a lot of both even in areas where cable and all that is available. I am one of those dial-up users. I would rather have cable modem too, but until we bring in more income, I have to settle for the cheaper internet. LOL I'm with Pop on this issue. Go Pop! =-) "Love dial-up users everywhere!" LOL
