Whenever I am writing something (especially in pen) if I mess up just a little, I have to start over. Sometimes 4 or 5 times. So my husband and I have this little game. If one of us starts to do something a little obsessive you get to say "I see you have a little bit of Monk in you"

LOL! Me and my wife do the same, sometimes! She'll be on me about washing my hands or something and I'll say, "O.k., Monk!" Monk has become a symbol for compulsive behaviors, that's for sure. Although being super-clean and tidy is not something I share with him, here are a couple of odd behaviors I have:
1. I eat everything one thing at a time. I cannot stand for my food to touch, either. Even cake and ice cream have to be seperate.
2. I always have to touch the last stair with my right foot, even if I have to do a double step just before to make it happen.
3. I avoid cracks in sidewalks at almost all costs.
4. Perhaps strangest, if I look at my watch and my digital second hand reads :00, then I must look away for one second and glance at it again at :02. I am fine with any other seconds, though. I don't know what it is about avoiding looking at :01. Any Doctor Kroger wannabees want to take a stab at that one?

Well, speaking for myself; If I look at a clock and the digital minutes read :00, I suspect that the clock isn't working... Not set, broken, etc. ... so I look away for a second, and then look back, to see if it changed (because that means it's working). Think that might be it? Or something like it?
Now, I have a friend with an analog clock over his mantel that reads 8:00. It really is broken, and it drives me nuts because I always look at it to see what the time is!

My Mom has some OCD tendencies. I have gotten my family to start saying Monk when she does something that shows these tendencies. When we do this, she laughs and realizes that she was having a Monk moment. Just recently my parents decided to replant some flowers in some pots they have on their deck. My Dad brought back 15 plants. This drove my Mom nuts. She couldn't understand why someone would estimate with an odd number. When she told me the story, I started laughing and asked her if she was saying it is better to have two to many or be two short than to have just one to many or be one short. Her answer was yes, because you just don't estimate with an odd number.

I have OCD. It's not fun, but with the correct meds and therapy it can be overcome. Most typical OCD in women include excessive shopping and excessive dieting and exercise. I had both. The latter (dieting and exercise) took a toll on my health and I developed all kinds of immunity related illnesses. Like in "Monk takes his Medicine" I too had a bad reaction to medication. Some meds for OCD can cause "increased mania". My onces quiet reserved personality (like Monks) became loud, ultra happy, and sometimes annoying. Like Monk I also lost my ability to do analytical work (I am a computer programmer). An adjustment in meds brought me back down to earth, but watching "Monk Takes his Medicine" admittedly was alittle painful for me to see because that was me at one time. Tho it is useful to know that the writers of Monk do understand the illness.

when i put away books or videos they MUST be all lined up, even, on the shelf. and they must all be in alphabetical order. my clothes in my closet are arranged by type (all dresses together, blouses, then t-shirts)and color. if i am counting money it must be facing the same way.
there are more, but those are the main ones i can think of right now. whenever i do something like that i just say i am having a "monk moment." my friend who is also a monk fan just smiles knowingly.
