Shygirl
Hello everyone,
I am new to the board and I have been a real big fan of Shy's for a long time. As soon as I heard that Shy tried out for Nashville Star I checked the forum out. I didn't see anyone start an official Shy forum so I thought I would. I really hope that the unofficial list is true! I think Shy is so talented and he's a really great guy. He's been playing down in Texas for awhile now and everytime he's in town my friends and I always go see him play. Just in case anyone missed his websites here they are:

www.shyblakeman.com
www.myspace.com/whiskeyfever www.sonicbids.com/ShyBlakeman

I hope everyone likes Shy as much as I do. Hope to talk to all you future fans soon!
Pop
I'm glad to see you post! It's good know that besides me, someone else knows of Shy... LOL

Hey Pop, I know who Shy is too. I have his CD
Catwomn220
I don't know too much about him, but I did check out his website and do like his music a lot. I now consider myself a fan! LOL I'll keep following his career, either way. I love music as long as it sounds good, and he definitely sounds good! So, I will keep listening, no matter what!
Shygirl
I picked up his new cd "Southern Roots Revival". My favorite song is Sweet Southern Woman and the preacher at the beginning is awesome. I'm glad Shy isn't afraid to think outside the box.

Kat, you have an amazing collection of CDs it seems. Next contest will be for a Texan named Ronnie Caywood btw.

Pop, I know who Shy is also but don't have his CD...
Matt Snook
I met Shy last year in Austin, TX. What a performer! I'm sure his cd is great, but I think people would be missing out if they didn't get to see him live.
Shy's folks were really nice and probably have a lot to do with Shy's caring demeanour. Good Luck in 2006!

His new CD is available thru CDBaby. I have his first CD which I really like a lot! I will be listening to the new one tomorrow for sure (and probably ordering).

Here is the direct link thru CDBaby if anyone else wants to check it out:

Here is an article I found about Shy. I just thought yall might want to read it.

Just 6 weeks ago, Shy Blakeman thought he had seen his last sunrise. He was in Dallas, just after a gig, when a mugger tried to rob his friend. Shy intervened not knowing what the mugger would do. This resulted in a shot through his jaw straight through the jugular vein. From the time he was shot till he found him self in an ambulance, he thought that he was spending his last night on earth. His vision became negative quality snapshots and he fought himself to stay conscious. If he fell asleep, he thought that would be the end of him.

Shy must not be finished here just yet. Like a cat with 9 lives, he just keeps on living. Once in the ambulance, he realized that he would live. But then, his thoughts turned to music. Would he be able to sing again? Shy has been around music his whole life. His father started "the Whiskey Fever Band" in Laramie, Wyoming back in 1979, when Shy was only 6. His father was the lead singer of this Southern Rock band, following the outlaw movement started by Willie and Waylon. This band weathered many changes over the years, such as musicians and states. But, it weathered the years and found it self back in the great state that inspired itıs existence. The Whiskey Fever Band returned to itıs Texas roots in 1994.

When Shy came to the guitar himself at age 14, his musical idols were far from country. He listened to the Reggae, Ska, and Punk that dominated the California scene of his teens. At 16, he moved to Texas and began writing songs as a means to pick up girls. He was a typical teenager, with a great love for music.

He grew up a little and moved to New York, where in addition to teaching, he played guitar for a successful punk band called Reluctant 131 and were finding a receptive audience.

However, Shy was growing out of his punk phase. Straight up Punk music did not have enough of an emotional release for Shy. He wanted to write songs filled with stories that meant something. He needed music with more soul and deeper roots.

So in 2001, when he could not return to work in New York he quit the band and moved back to Texas. He began composing sincere and truthful songs that expressed the insightful man he had grown into.

When his father decided to retire from the Whiskey Fever Band just a few years ago, Shy Blakeman just could not let his father's legacy die. He stacked the band with talent and dedicated himself to his fatherıs legacy of honky tonkin' southern rock, with a touch of the blues.

Their first album "Downtown Women" is filled with catchy songs and features some great names in music: Gary P. Nunn, Rusty Weir, and Miranda Lambert. The Band currently opens for the likes of Cory Morrow, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Bill Pritchet, and Darrel Dodd to name a few. They gig from Wichita Falls, to Corpus Christi, Louisiana to Lubbock. Committed to all types of country, they range from Texas swing, to country-jazz to bluegrass. And they are committed to the hard work and touring that it takes to succeed.

With all this going for him, Shy was too resilient to let a little something like a gunshot wound get in his way. On January 17, he will sing again on stage with his band, in his new hometown of Longview, after a 6 week recovery.

Regardless of the fact that it was music that inadvertently got him shot, giving up music never crossed his mind. On the contrary, Shy realized how important music is to him. It is what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

I asked Shy what he learned from his brush with death, and he said 2 things: not to put off till tomorrow what one can do today, and how much his loved ones mean to him.

He wanted to say thanks for all the love and support shown to him during these trying past weeks. Your thoughts and prayers have meant everything to him. Despite a gun shot wound, Shy Blakeman and the Whiskey Fever Band are still going strong. Their music contains more passion for life than ever. Shy is eager to perform and eager to return to the studio for a second album. This album he promises will be even deeper in lyrics. It will also branch out into more country styles that were left off the first album, such as blue grass, Americana and country rock. Check 'em out. They have all the heart, drive, history and skill to become a Texas legend.

When Shy Blakeman is 65, he hopes to still be singing for a crowd that can sing along. We wish him the best and congratulate him on his courage to keep on livin'.

Can't believe he went through all of that!

March 14th I think is, when they telecast the first episode of the Nashville Star. Until then there will not be an offical release of information because "they" don't want us to know what we already "unoffically know". That's the way it is...

I was looking at Shy's website (it's going under some new construction now) and in looking at his schedule, he doesnt have a gig listed for approx. the last week in Jan. or first week of February. February 25th is the last gig he has listed until MAY 5th. Maybe that is a clue that he is going to be busy "elsewhere" during those times....like maybe Nashville? Just a thought.

Lets keep the "official shy blakeman post" at the top!!

Shygirl
This is a picture of Shy at Sharpie's in Shreveport on New Years 2005!! I love his intensity!! You rock my socks off Shy!!
Shygirl
Sorry it's so big..I tried to follow Pop's advice, but I guess I screwed that one up..
Pop
Thanks for posting that pic but now it's just a tad small.. anything in the range of 380 - 450 pixels wide presents very well here on the forum... You could import again, check your pixel width, and then slowly go down in size. I never reduce in a step of the 75% size, which is a reduction of 25%. Don't click on the 25% because it really goes down is size fast...

Hopefully this just didn't confumble you more... sorry...
Shygirl
Here is a great picture of Shy singing his heart out!! I can't wait to see you on the show. You're such a hottie!!
Shygirl
I"m so excited..I knew Shy would make it on the show..I can't wait to see his energy on stage. I'm behind you all the way. Congrats, you deserve it.

They play the songs between Billoard song #9 - #10 usually. I liked it a lot more than I expected I would. This is going to be a great season.
