I have 2 dogs
female pit bull/6 yrs old/her name is Ginger
male boxer/coyote/lab / 8 months/his name is Shadow
Bubba_Bridges
Hi Bubba here, our dog go by many names, mainly Buffy.
kees_lady
I have a 10 yr old Ch. English Cocker whose registered name is (and don't laugh, I didn't name him, only rescued him): Ch. Darcy's Leon Dankin, call name is Dan, Danny, but mostly Daniel Spaniel which he kind of gets all excited about. Leon Dankin was a Packer, danged if I know who he is.

My second dog just turned 1 yr Jan 13, he's a Shetland Sheepdog named Jetzen, or Jetz for short - got his name 'cause he always has his 'jets on', non-stop.

I also own a Shiba Inu named Cayenne but she is currently living with my daughter who sorta stole her away from me.

And a medium haired black and white cat named Cody.

***I have 2 dogs.....My English Bulldog...Sir Vincent Radar Snugfit (Vinny).....My Shih-Tzu... Contessa Rose Honey-Pot (Tessie).......I LOVE my babies!!!!!!!!!

Ah, my daughter gave her that name. I think she did/does/will (hard to say at any given moment) like Eminem.

About Shadow's coyote lineage...how did that happen?

well, Shadow's mom's mom had puppies from a coyote.
the owners's took the dog up to another state while they were on vacation near a place where there were coyoties
the man that gave us shadow said that his parents saw the whole thing happen or something (they didn't really want puppies)

Does Shadow howl at the moon like the coyotes in movies?

----------------------------------------------------------
soccermanic
i used to have a rottweiler that howeled but not at the moon, lol, at least i don't think so

Shadow, does not look like a coyote but more like a black boxer and kinda like a rottweiler even though he's more of other things. but when he growls it sounds like a low howling, it's the funniest thing though because if u start talking to him like say shadow wat r u doing! he starts to howl/growl back it's hilarious

if he did howl at the moon i would totally tape it
Farsix
That sounds hilarious - so the howl is built right into the growl.

Mine has a piercing, pathetic, ridiculous bark when I get home til I let her out of the kitchen.
kees_lady
My nice mannerly Daniel Spaniel never barked at anything, not even the mailman, doorbell...he did a low whine. Now Jetz has a barking problem and barks at shadows and has Daniel Spaniel barking right along with him. Jetz is high pitched and piercing, Dan's is very deep and sounds like I have a German Shepherd in the yard. Jetz is destined for a 'no bark electric shock collar', just as soon as one comes back to the store so I can rent it.
Farsix
I'm guessing this collar is humane if you are mentioning it...hmmm...

A bag of kitty litter fell over and frightened and otherwise brave little dog and she went nuts. For some odd reason she isn't afraid of thunder ... yet.
soccermanic
my other dog has a kind of a high pitch bark but not like the ones that little dogs do, we always have rocoons(sp), opossums (sp), cats and even skunks coming into our yard all the time and i guess by nature my dogs chase them my puppy chases them and wags his tail so i'm guessing he doesn't really care about protecting his territory but my other dog, whoa, everytime an animal comes into our yard she tries to kill it, and we can't do anything about that, the animals come under our fence, one time she killed a skunk and brought it into the house when we were on vacation, the whole house smelled horrible and so did she. now she buries them in my parents garden. when she can't reach let's say a cat stuck in our treehouse in our backyard she stays there all day barking until it comes down.

she taught herself to climb a vertical ladder though, it leads up to our treehouse
Oliviasmyhero1
I have an ACD named Pete and an Ainu dog named Amber
kees_lady
That is one smart dog, climbing a ladder to get to the tree house. A dog that can do that would make a good agility dog. I could see Jetz doing that if he thought there might be a box of used kleenex up there he could tear up.

Electric shock collars deliver a shock which is about equal to the ones you would get from a electrical outlet, however the tougher the skin on the dog sometimes the higher the shock has to be, especially in breeds like the ones originally bred for fighting. If the dog isn't fazed by it the shock level can be raised a notch. They are very humane as long as the dog isn't forced to wear one out in the rain and get electrical burns.

When I had the 14 keeshonden several of them were surgically debarked. They are alarm giving watchdogs and don't learn not to bark very easily. It's a very humane procedure, the vet puts a punch through each side of the vocal cords, the dogs come out of the surgery barking like crazy only it sounds more like a whisper. It may sound cruel but a barking dog is a nuisance and the fines are very high, higher than the cost of the debarking procedure and the dogs never seem to mind, they go merrily barking away in a whisper as if nothing had ever been done - they still have their voicebox, the pitch of the bark is just a whole lot lower. Many, many beeders and pet owners have this procedure done, especially when they live in the city where a continuously barking dog is considered a nuisance. The skin grows over the punched cords and the dog never have a problem with it.

I know both sound cruel but sometimes we humans have to put aside our human emotions for the well being of the pets like we do when we take away their reproductive organs - which many men do not want to do to their male dogs so using methods to prevent barking is really a retraining of the dogs natural instincts. Some dogs like collies, shelties, keeshonden, Finnish Spitz and miniture poodles are bred to bark and hard to break from barking. After paying several fines the dogs usually end up in humane shelters which I feel is much, much crueler - yanking a pet out of a home because it barks isn't very humane and neither is shouting and yelling at the dog to 'shut up' all the time which only teaches the dog you are angry with them which doesn't make for a happy dog or owner.
Farsix
Kees-lady, I'm so glad that I can come here to get this information. Still so much to know about the critters. I think we may do many things that seem to hurt but really improve the quality of life.
valdeere
I have a Great Pyrenees named Azukre, which means "sugar" in Basque...since the Pyrenees Mtns are in the Basque Country, I thought a Basque name would be fitting...oh, and Azukre means "sugar" also fitting for a mostly all white dog...we call him "Zuke" for short
kees_lady
What a neat name for a G. Pyr, very creative and certainly fitting for such a terrific breed of dog.

Ch. Truepenny Red Celtic Rose (Pearl; 4 years)
Rysan's Celtic Chance Cape May CGC,TDI (Capey; 12 years)
Celtic's Anwen Roisin (Anwen; 9 years)

Pearl and Capey are Welsh Springer Spaniels and Anwen is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
iheartmysetters
I have two sweet english setters.... both from the same parents a year apart. My gentle fella is appropriately named Gene Simmons... as his ears are wild and his tongue is super long and almost always out... and he really does look like Gene Simmons from KISS (when he's in full make up of course!) My little girl pup just turned one... her name is Bermuda Triangle. Originally her name came from a triangle patch at the top of her head... but now it's more that she's a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, dipped in a riddle.... and then fried up in total badness. They are the sweetest!
WalterT
We have two Mini Schnauzer bitches, one a very light grey - named Shadow and a black one named Pinot Noir.

Shadow was named for her ability as a pup to lose herself in the shadows of the backyard trees, and Pinot Noir because we like the wine and her handsome dark (Noir) spectre.
Olivia33
I have a female Lab Mix named Trixie! Shes adorable! Heres a pic of her!

Not very many Welch Springers around. My manager just had her 15 year old Welch put to sleep. She goes to all the local supported Welch entry shows in WI, judges occasionally at rare breed matches and now co-owns a Golden Retriever with her room mate and the dogs breeder Connie Gerstner (don't remember Connie's married name). The Welch's name was Buddy, short for Ch. (something kennel) This Bud's For You!.

Welcome all you newcomers to the WKC board - we need new members.

My dog is a male Miniture Fox Terrier (aka. tenterfield terrier) named Phantom, 18 months old.
He got his name because he has a large black patch over his left eye which makes him look like the phantom of the opera.
Whenever he has to go to the vet, the vetanarian always says what a handsome and well built fella he is.

Good looks didnt get him good grades in puppy pre-school though
He's a drop-out

Well I currently have 4 dogs at the moment....so their names are Merlin,Max,Muffie and Chacho but I've had many dogs in my life....the worst name ever for a dog was "Trash"....that was because that's where the pound had found her before we adopted her.....pretty sad if you ask me....but don't feel too bad, we re-named her "Rags" instead....that seemed to fit her much better. I also once owned a dog named "Useless"....you can blame my mom for that name....lol.....but he was was kinda useless at times....like when he would growl at the coffee pot when he'd heard it start up in the morning....lol

"Trash", LOL, hysterical, "Rags" sounds so much better.
My neighbor had a German Shepherd Dog female named "Evil", she lived up to her name. My Keeshond, Trooper, went over to visit in a friendly way, no aggression on his part and "Evil" bit him in the leg, eye and hind end. My friend ran over, grabbed Evil and threw her over a fence! Evil broke a tooth off between the two bones of Troops foreleg which required surgery but didn't break the bone. Trooper recovered with no scarring but whenever he would hear Evil bark his eyes would get wild looking and he'd look for me - a few words telling him I was right there would calm him. He was definitely my dog in his heart - and he was mine in my heart. My first Keeshond - and, no, the neighbor didn't even offer to pay the vet bill, said it was my fault 'cause Troop came over to her yard and Evil was just protecting her property. I fenced in my yard after that.

She's just as cute as a young lady as she was as a pup. What an adorable face she has...she looks like a Sadie. How is the shedding going or hasn't she started yet? Big job brushing out all that fur.

Wish I had the ways and means to post a picture of Jetz but since he never holds still it would all be a blur and when he's sleeping he hides his head...don't ask "why", he won't even tell me!
VampyreBarbie

I have a 9 year old chihuahua named Chains, and recently a puppy of questionable breeding, which I have named Whips..

Chains is a male, Whips is female, and yes, I know, strange names. It was originally that Chains AKC registered name in puppydom, was Chavez, I didn't like that name, and wanted something he might still think was the word chavez... I had a german shepard named Harley.. so, Harley and Chains it was.

Whips came along as a name, when people would ask me what Chains name was, and they always thought I said James.. So I would say Chains, like whips and.. then started joking that if I ever got another chihuahua, female, I would name her Whips.. and so I have. Not that she is pure chihuahua, I don't even think she's a 16th one!
Bubba_Bridges
Hi Bubba here, another nice picture, Farsix.

Thanks, Bubba and cute names "Whips" and "Chains".

Don't know much about Poms but Sadie lost a bunch of fur as a baby, then it grew back thick like a sled dog but not puffy like a Pom. Probably not a great sign but it's pretty fur and she's a charming pile of not-round fur.

"Whips" and "Chains" I love it. I once had a dog I called "Royal Payne"...long story but "Race" sired "Rose" who was the dam of "Ross" who sired "Royal"..... I've had so many dogs I'm starting to run our of names.
drfong
Hello, My wife and I have 2 Austrialian Terriers. A dog-Brady who is almost 10 months. He is a blue/tan. His nick name is Pee-Pot for obvious reasons. He would get depressed after being around other dogs and then going home so we decided to get him a girlfriend. We got a [censored]-Molly who we call Mean Girl. She is a red colored ausy. From the first day we got her she was the boss of him. She is almost 6 months old. They are such good dogs, we don't know what we did without them.
kees_lady
drfong,

Females always rule the pack in the animal world so I'm not surprised Molly rules over Pee-Pot. It's the natural order of things---except in people.
I once had a female Keeshond named Teazy, she was the love of my life and we bonded so closely she could read my mind. Anyway, she ruled the roost over all the other dogs I owned, males and females backed away from favorite toys and food dishes. She never attacked or fought with any dog but all she had to do was look at them and they backed off.
Each new dog/puppy I had wasn't accepted into the pack until Teazy scooped them up, humped them and then all the others accepted the new addition as part of the family.
It was really fun to watch this 20# female running the lives of 40# males. When I lost her at the age of 10 years to a brain disorder I grieved for years. I didn't ever bond that closely with another dog until years later.

I hope nobody minds that I post here....since I'm not a regular. If so, then just tell me and I'll leave.
Anyway, I currently have two dogs, and Great Dane and a Chocolate (bad spelling) Lab.
The Dane's name is Chance, he's really sweet. We used to train him to go into nursing homes.....but he's pretty old now and isn't as good with strangers as he used to be.
The Lab is called Cocoa. She's such a great dog. She's almost twelve years old now but you wouldn't know it by watching her. She's such a spaz, I don't know what I'de do without her.

My family and I used to have another Great Dane, a harliquin named Layla. But I think she was a product of too much inbreeding and she went crazy and attacked Cocoa so we had to put her down.
We've had lots of other dogs before that. A Cain terrior named Nicki, another lab named Shannon......and some more dogs but they were before I was born.
kees_lady
yankeesfan, you certainly can post here. This is just the right place to post about anything doggy. My boss had a harlequin Dane named Quinn, a fantastic dog then she got a mentally disturbed German Shepherd and a Wolfhound who beat the hell out of Quinn when he was 12 or 13 years old. Ari, the GS, was never dependable around other dogs or people but seemed to like me - I fed her biscuits - we had an understanding - she didn't scare me so she didn't try.

I'm a BIG Brewers Fan, just FYI. smile.gif We only have one team here to pick from - before that I was a Braves fan, even after they moved to Atalanta.
yankeesfan
There are no regional baseball teams where I live. So I went with the Yankees.

My uncle has a German Shephard named Chip. When my uncle had some kids he started to pay Chip less attention and as a result Chip hates his kids. He started makeing messes just to show my uncle how mad he was.....at least that's what it seems like. He's gotten old now....doesn't trust anyone but his mater...and my brother. (I have no idea why)
