the best thing about the show IMHO is that it a good family show. You can feel confident about sitting down as an entire family and knowing that you won't see many of the offensive things found on other shows. Even shows on public tv.
As a parent....I give Monk two symmetrical thumbs up!!!!

Hi Bubba here, I also believe Monk is a good family show.

yes i agree with you totally on this one.
monk is a lot easier to watch than all of those morbid forensic shows and its a lot different to other cop shows like SVU in that it doesnt contain drugs, sex and racial issues etc. Whatever the show monk lacks in terms of mindblowing controversy it sure makes up for with good humor and wit.
i think the whole purpose of the show monk is to entertain everyone of all ages. even people (ie. me)who are fans of the most bizarre shows and movies even enjoy watching monk.
I love it

Yesterday as I was finishing up my "Secret Santa" review, I had to take a break and restock my caffeine supply. I went across the street to the family owned corner store and as I walked in I heard the strains of Otis Redding's White Christmas. At first I thought I was delusional: I'd spent too much time watching the episode, but no. The family who owns the place (husband, wife, child) were gathered around the TV in the back watching the end of a repeat airing of "Secret Santa." Monk is everywhere.
The thing I like best about Monk is that it's not just an exercise in corporate greed. The people who make it (Tony, Andy, et al) really believe in it and really love it.

mdr, I knew it, I just knew you would say that! Maybe we should all chip in to get poor mdr a life-size Natalie poster for the back of his bedroom door
I usually watch things like Bones, House, L&O et al, Dead Zone, psychological thrillers - well I like that kind of series or movies but Monk is different, different like Murder, She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder which I loved watching. Good series with excellent acting in drama and comedy and that is the way I see Monk.
Monk is everywhere, it's even an international obsession - now I think that is a good thing. People in other countries that can identify with Adrian and the cast, it has to be because of the excellent skills of Tony, the writers and other producers. Even when I feel the story is a little too simplistic I come away feeling good for having watched it and watching Tony being dramatic or comedic is always a treat. I really wish they would make a Monk movie where they could expand on the storyline and make more use of Tonys' acting skills.

Yes it is a fantastic family show. IMO it appeals to all demographics.
My pets & I watch it every week.
Hey Kees-lady, "House" is my other obsession....OMG I love that show. HL is to die for sexy. I've seen HL in most of his other stuff.... but OMG as House....WOW.
B.
Monk & House for me...TV doesn't get any better than that.

I love House, that guy is my kind of man. I watch it every week and still can't remember his name, I have such a hard time remembering names.
This last week I had to work Tues. night so missed it - I was so PO'd, so now I look forward to the reruns. FOX doesn't do marathons does it? Just started watching this season after a work schedule change gave me Tues night off so missed the first season. I love this show and his not-so-professional bedside manner. Glad to have another House fan on board. I would even give up Stot for House, LOL.

kees-lady,
I think we talked about HOUSE, MD sometime ago--and then, of course Hugh Laurie was nominated for an Emmy as best actor in a dramatic series (but sadly did not win). Laurie is simply outstanding as HOUSE, MD--and his range: from "Stewart Little" and "The Flight of The Phoenix" feature films to HOUSE (the TV series) is very impressive as well.
You mentioned "Diagnosis: Murder" as being a good, family series. Did you see that Dick Van Dyke is once again (how old is he anyway?) returning to TV--this time as a unversity professor who solves crimes in "Murder 101," on the new revolving HALLMARK CHANNEL Mystery Wheel of made-for-cable TV movie franchises ("Mystery Woman" and "Jane Doe" are returning, but "McBride is not.) starting in January 2006 (on cable's The Hallmark Channel)??

That is great, Teresa! I think it is cool that the corner store family was watching "Monk"!
At work last week a co-worker said it bothered him that the cubicle wall wasn't parallel to the line on the floor. I asked him if he watches "Monk", and he laughed and said he can relate!
I also think it is so great that everyone involved with "Monk" loves it!!

I believe Dick Van Dyke is in his late 70's.
Did you know that he was born in Danville, Illinois?

Yes, Monk is a good family show, but I personally find some of the murders pretty creepy. I saw Mr. Monk gets drunk last week and I couldn't watch the intro! It was scary! The other really gross one I remember is the one where the guy chainsawed the girl. I think that was Mr. Monk gets Fired. Although at least they didn't actually show it.

Lee, thanks for the Heads Up. I hadn't seen that Dick is returning to the small screen - I so seldom watch The Hallmark Channel, well, I watch a lot of the movies but not much more than that. I'll start paying better attention and watch for those series/programs. Dick is such a find actor and his dancing skills equal only those of Buddy Ebsen, those loose hips that don't seem attached to any other part of his body, LOL. I loved the music box scene in---dang, can't remember anything except chim chim charee. Another senior moment.
We did talk about HOUSE awhile back, right after I discovered it for the first or second episode. Try to make a real effort to be home right after work so I can watch - no stopping off for errands, etc., getting the dogs out, fed, out again but during commercials I play ball with Jetz 'cause shelties have this continuous need to MOVE - so I miss a lot of what happens during commercials and without a man in the house flipping channels during the commercials I miss a lot of other things too, on TV FGS! And I did watch the Emmies and saw Hugh Laurie was nominated but didn't win. Too bad. Haven't seen Flight of the Phoenix, intended to several times when I still had the Movie Channels but missed it each time.
Catch ya later,

That was probably the best scene in the whole movie. I wish I had a clip of just that part, I loved it that much.
Do you remember the Dick Van Dyke Show, not the sitcom but his one hour comedy hour with Andy Kaufman...who later went on to play in 'Taxi'? He was so good as the little foreign man and then his Elvis impersonation. He took his foreign character to Taxi and made it memorable.

Andy was really great and very creative, he did a lot of great comedy-type things, remember "Pop! Goes the Weasel?" with his little 45 rpm record player?
Too bad he got into drugs and became nutso at the end of his career. A waste of great talent.

What I especially like is that MONK appeals not only to people with OCD or related problems but it also appeals to those who don't and helps educate the public about OCD and related problems.
The other thing I really like is that it shows people with OCD or related problems that with a little help or support YOU CAN function in the world and not to be afraid to try.
