Monk to Return to TV in 2-hour Movie

MY9TV.COM - Monk, the "obsessive, compulsive detective" is coming back with a brand new show. It's been two and a half years since Adrian Monk had a new crime to solve on his hit TV show.

And for Monk fans like Tonya, it's been a long time of hoping for some new episodes. Tonya Reiman says, “I love Monk. Why? He just demonstrates everything there is about someone who doesn't care, but cares, if that makes any sense.”

But now, we've learned exclusively that Monk is coming back to first-run TV. And the details come from Andy Breckman, the show's creator. Breckman says, “Just today as we did this interview, I just finished writing a Monk movie.”

You heard it right. A Monk movie is coming and it will be shot this summer in California. Breckman says, “Monk did such a great job that I want to do it again.”

But in the meantime, Breckman continues his other passion, a weekly radio show in Jersey City on WFMU, a small listener-sponsored radio station. The show is called “The 7 Second Delay.” Breckman has been doing it with partner Ken Freedman for 20 years.
He calls it stunt radio.

Breckman says, “It means every week we come up with ideas that we've never heard any other show do before.” And he sat down before the microphone even while "Monk" was in production. Breckman says, “On Wednesdays I would occasionally sneak away, lie about where I was going, do my radio show. Sometimes there were problems on the set of monk, and I felt very guilty.”

But he continued to broadcast. And this week he's pitching for the non-profit station's yearly marathon, to keep WFMU afloat. So what about his new Monk project? Breckman tells us it will be a two-hour made for TV movie, with a political theme.

Breckman says, “I'll even tell you the title of it. 'Mr. Monk for Mayor'. He runs for mayor of San Francisco.” Breckman expects you'll see the new Monk show this December, and he's hoping it will have a sequel.

The proposed title is Mr Monk runs for Office. According to the interview, the plot will be Monk running for mayor of SF.

I'm so happy that they are making one!!!!! When I saw the announcement on the news I FLIPPED out!!!! Haha thankfully it's not just some rumor spread on the Internet but confirmed by the producer himself on tv hopefully they will follow through though!

What about the Captain, Randy, Sharona Molly and, of course , Natalie? Is there anything about them appearing as well? If Natalie were to have a role, I wonder if she would be his campaign manager or because other commitments elsewhere she will be written out of the script with a one liner?

In any case, rumors of pending movies of popular TV shows are ubiquitious but never seem to get beyond that so I am hoping but keeping both feet on the ground.

I listen to the interview of Andy and he said that the TV movie should be out in December with a possible sequel....Tony will of course be back as Adrian but unsure what cast members will be back...Randy and Sharona could have guest spots or just voice overs in the movie...but as far as Andy is willing to give us the juicy details we will have to wait...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Monk movie is not gonna happen. According to Monk writer Hy Conrad, "There isn't going to be one. USA paid for Andy to write two scripts. The first, where Monk gets married and goes to France, only to have his new wife try to kill him, got shot down for creative reasons. It seemed like too much of a departure.

The second, "Mr. Monk for Mayor", involved Natalie and Stottlemeyer but not Disher. Molly has become an investigative reporter like her mother and wants to expose a scandal at City Hall. But the only way to get that information is to get inside the mayor's office - hence Monk's decision to run for mayor.

USA crunched the numbers and decided that to film the movie and then to promote it would cost about 6 million and that it wouldn't be worth it. Andy is onto two new projects, an hour-long mystery series about twin brothers, one of whom is supposed to be dead. They wind up both sharing the "living" brother's life as they solve crimes. Another comedy mystery. His other is a half-hour comedy with Dana Carvey. Both are in early stages, so anything can happen."

The setting is a mental facility. JM is recorded for each one of the 13 scenes. I examine some other locale it is like House not tallying restorative questions it has mental ones.
