13 does seem to be an unlucky number for SVU. They came in third in their time slot. And compared to last season's 10PM season premiere ratings of 3.5, last night's 2.3 is just sad.

10PM
Revenge (ABC) had 10.02 million viewers with a 3.4 rating and a 9 share.
CSI (CBS) had 12.74 million viewers with a 3.2 rating and an 9 share.
SVU (NBC) had 7.63 million viewers with a 2.4 rating and a 6 share.

Not really a surprise with "SVU's" numbers:

Revenge on ABC was the premiere was what was except for Pan Am (which debuts Sunday) ABC's most anticipated new show of the year.

CSI: NY has a very loyal following much like the Law & Order shows still do, just more of them.

Special Victims Unit was also hurt by the fact there was a rain delay before the Tampa Bay Rays-New York Yankees game (actually second game of a day-night doubleheader) that aired in New York on the YES Network, in Tampa on FSN Florida I believe and in the rest of the country on ESPN. That game, which officially gave the Yankees the American League East title ran until just past 11:00 PM ET. As "SVU's" best ratings traditionally are in New York, you likely had people in NYC watching the Yankees clinch the AL East when "SVU" was airing (and the game spilled over into what was supposed to be the second game of the ESPN doubleheader, Rangers-A's).

CSI:NY was not on last night. It is the original CSI that is now on Wednesdays at 10PM.

Thanks for the correction. As I was one of those watching the Yankees clinch the AL East, I would not have noticed.

Point was, Disney probably hurt "SVU" between Revenge (on ABC) and Rays-Yankees (nationally on ESPN and in New York on YES). Given the game also had potential playoff implications for the Rays and Red Sox (I'm sure Red Sox fans, in the odd position of rooting for the Yankees tuned in), I bet that took away more viewers from "SVU" than people would want to admit.

The ratings are down because not only is the writing bad but because one of the main characters is gone. You will see that once Mariska leaves, a lot more of the fans will follow. When the writers don't care about their fan base and take the show in a completely odd and different direction that a lot of fans wanted or expected then ratings are going to drop. The proof is in the numbers ;)

10PM
Revenge (ABC) had 7.99 million viewers with a 2.5 rating and a 7 share.
CSI (CBS) had 10.79 million viewers with a 2.6 rating and a 7 share.
SVU (NBC) had 7.66 million viewers with a 2.2 rating and a 6 share.

There was no SVU last night, new or a repeat. So here is some sobering news about SVU and their ratings for this season.

A recent Wall Street Journal article talked about the problems of NBC in their ratings. In particular, ďAmong the shows demonstrating particularly severe declines are long-running programs like "Law & Order: SVU" and "The Biggest Loser," each of which lost one of its stars. The 18-to-49-year-old audiences for those shows have fallen 20% to 3.4 million and 23% to 3 million, respectively, this season compared to last season, according to Nielsen.Ē

The other piece of news is from AdAge. It lists the estimated price of advertising on network shows. The rate for SVU (Wed 10PM) is $104,528. If you look at the cost of some of the other shows, even on NBC, SVU isnít even close to being a top earner.

The ratings for Russian Brides (11/9/2011) dropped even further than last week to a new series low. This may be in part due to the Country Music Awards program.

CSI (CBS) had 10.09 million viewers with a 2.5 rating and a 7 share.
