Why is Season six of PSYCH starting in the fall rather than the Summer? The new season generally starts around July or August, but season six is starting in the Fall instead of the Summer.

What's going on?

Hey there, welcome to the forums! I took this quote from another page that sums it up pretty nicely.<br><br>"Ted Linhart is the VP of program research at USA Network. He’s active on twitter as @TedOnTV.
<p>He announced yesterday that Psych has been moved to the fall because
they have two new series starting and there wasn’t room for them all in
summer.</p>
<p>He said they chose Psych because they needed a “strong, reliable”
show in fall that stood well on its own, and Psych had proved to hold up
very well in fall.</p>
<p>He also reassured worried fans that this decision has no bearing on
“future seasons”. I.e. this does NOT mean this is the last season for
Psych, or that it will always start in fall from now on: he said they
hadn’t planned that far ahead.</p>
<p>And he said they don’t have an exact start date yet and have not
decided whether to air all of S6 this year or whether to split it.</p>
<p>[Credits- Aneema]"</p><p><br></p><p>Basically, they know from experience that Psych can hold its own in the fall, whereas they weren't sure about the two new series. They're just hedging their bets because they know Psych won't suffer from it. I hope this helped!<br></p>

Well that sucks, PSYCH shouldn't have to be moved to the Fall just to make room for two new series. One of the new series should start in the Fall and let PSYCH start in it's regular time in the Summer.

If they decided to start one of the new series in the Fall, there's a greater chance that it'll fail. Summer shows have better ratings, especially for new series compared to the Fall. I agree that it sucks, but at least it's coming back.

I also think of it as a compliment; USA knows for sure that Psych can hold its own during the Fall season; there's not too many shows that can do that.

Agreed.

Also, I think it's surprising that shows do better during the summer, I would have thought that people would be more inclined to go outside and not watch tv during the summer than the other colder seasons.

I know, right? Even if you're talking about going out at night (when the shows are on), it's a mystery as to how Summer shows get incredible ratings, even without DVRs and such.

Then again, the summer season is usually the "break" from school (high school, college, seeing as those are the big demographics that Psych aims for), so it stands to reasons that the age group (14-30, rough estimate) have the spare time to watch television.

I just went completely off-topic, but even though we have to wait an extra few months for Psych, at least the network isn't worried about the show's ratings slipping. My biggest relief was reading that just because it moved to the Fall season, it wasn't getting cancelled. Next season, or possibly the one after that, it'll probably end up back on the Summer schedule after the other series either do well, or fail miserably.

Anyway, that was my two cents... plus an additional $1.25.
