BHLs (Bleeding heart liberals) complain that people outraged over the filth on the TV are trying to impose their morals on others. Um, no, we're not. Hollywood is trying to impose their degenerate morals on us. When someone wants to view porn, THOSE are the people who are supposed to have to make adjustments in order to view crude, vulgar content. But the way it is, they put porn on these channels, and expect everybody else to adjust in order to keep it out--dvr settings, parental block, etc.
There are always going to be people in the world who do not care the least little bit what they expose their children to. They screw their kids up, but their kids end up being dysfunctional about sex, drinking, and drugs in the same way their parents are, so these parents don't see the damage. It's hard enough to raise decent kids. Now we have to fight our television sets.
The people who want to view porn, either by themselves or with their kids, are the ones who need to adjust--not everyone else. I've set every parental control on my tv set, and porn still gets through. I pulled my cable. People who want to watch porn are supposed to rent movies and pay for porn channels. You don't put that through as general content across the board for everyone, and expect the majority of people to scramble around trying to keep that filth out of their house.
The people working in this industry--and I enjoy and admire quite a few of them--are, regardless, the most dysfunctional, socially inept, immoral people in the country. You do NOT take moral cues from these people. All the people I know just sit around watching TV and the tabloids waiting to see who the next one will be to stupid themselves to death. They need to stay in their bubbles. Their lack of discipline and self-control, their attitude that everything people do and want to do is okay no matter how sick and depraved it is or who it hurts, their apparent inability to cope with their very priviledged lives without being drunk or high all the time, their obsession with superficial concerns and permissive attitude toward the most vulgar conduct--they're unsuitable and unfit to emmulate. And this degenerate behavior is bleeding over into decent society. You're talking about people who don't get millions of dollars to play all day. You're talking about working middle class families just trying to raise their own kids as they see fit. You're messing with that.
I love how these famous people are teaching their daughters in particular the true value of a woman--you have one actor putting high heel shoes on his 4-year-old. Another couple with twins abuse drugs and have orgies in their house with the kids at home. And I have the good fortune to live a scant 7 miles from a boarding school in PA that is home to many of the rich and famous' children. Of course that also means the staff and faculty of this school are my neighbors. I was told directly by one worker that one actor's daughter--well old enough to know better--was "a real piece of work." She was urinating in her suite-mates' bunks. Dysfunctional much? At her age, this is mental illness. These are emotional problems. She was kicked out of the school.
I need to call the Enquirer on that one. The people working at this boarding school don't make $500,000 to roll out of bed every morning. Not a single one of them would mind a big fat check in order to be an "anonymous reliable source" in any of these tabloids. I've had my electricity turned off twice this year. I could use a big fat check too. Time to get some tabloid's reporters headed out to Tyrone Pennsylvania. Three workers at this boarding school live in my apartment complex. The school itself wouldn't even know which workers talked.
This is a very well-known actor. An actor on USA. An actor whose two daughters are always out and about dressed like prostitutes (that's been the subject of at least two industry bloggers) and who, in every single picture I've ever seen of them, have scowls on their face like they had just had a drag out fight with their parents.
Dysfunctional. Immoral. Depraved. Here's yet another actor who, by the way his daughters dress, has so obviously taught both girls what their worth is to men. As a receptacle. As a random collection of body parts. TV is teaching the rest of the country that very same thing. A fit parent sees his daughter come down the stairs dressed like that and sends them right back to the bedroom to get it right. A 17-year-old girl has every right in the world to look like a 17-year-old girl. This is an actor who has taken a male's perspective on sex as a base bodily function that means nothing--is nothing more than mating--and instilled those sensibilities in his daughters. "This is what men want to see. Accommodate that or you're worthless." These people have body weight hang ups and body image hang ups, and women who do not dress to arouse and entice men are worthless.
A sure sign of a parent who figures all this stuff is out there and don't even try to filter some of it or try to instill values of decency so that their children are armed against it. They just let it all in--resignation--and then wonder why their kids (and in this case--someone else's kids) are so hopelessly, irretrievably screwed up. They plan for anything--a kid who's an addict, a thief, a serial killer, anything, like it's a crapshoot. If it doesn't matter what you do and your impact as parents is nominal and won't have much effect, why are you having kids and buying up other people's kids?
Passive, reactionary parenting. Book parenting. Unfit parenting. If this post mysteriously disappears, I post it on my blog and I name the actor.
I am not a religious fanatic--I'm agnostic. I am not a prude. People who have a serious problem with loveless, heartless, animal-like sex on their TV are not prudes. I'm not one of these pucker-butt conservatives that have issues with people of color and homosexuals. There are many many MANY decent, loving, hard-working homosexuals in this country. I am fervently PRO-gay marriage, and my son is half black so I really don't have a problem with human beings coming in all shapes, sizes, and colors. So if you tried to pigeon-hole me as a pat way to dispense with this post, you're wrong. I don't advocate rolling the clock back to 1954. I watch Criminal Minds, all the CSIs, and Burn Notice, and my favorite comedian is Katt Williams. I now have to catch all those shows on DVD.
Most of these cable stations--USA, TNT, TBS, A&E--have been for quite some time considered the new networks. They used to constitute 'upper tier' with cable companies who packaged them separately. Many cable companies now lump them in with basic cable. So I called my local Comcast office on Tuesday to say I was bringing the box back and having cable cut off. He asked why. I said "the filth and garbage is flipping me out."
OMG. This guy actually cut me off to say that "A lot of customers are saying the exact same thing," though most are not discontinuing service. They're just dancing around as fast as they can with those controls in order to get that content blocked and those controls fail often.
He further said that customers were "enraged"--his word, not mine--and that they expect TV to be a "safe haven"--again, his word, not mine...that's why it's in quotation marks--a "safe haven" during daylight hours. So this guy, "Steve," (they never give their last names, and the first names are never their real names--I know that) who is supposed to be, at this point, working his hardest to keep us on as customers, is telling me I am very far from being alone.
One thing I've found about people who don't care at all what they expose their kids to--they don't care what they expose your kids to either. The people who want this content are supposed to be the ones making all the adjustments. Not everyone else. And TV continues to bleed this twisted, warped, base content into our homes like a poison. A cancer. An infestation. It's like having a house full of bold cockroaches. You turn the light on and they just keep eating.
A safe haven between 6a and 10p. It should be nothing short of that. People who like porn don't have TiVo? They don't have DVRs? They don't Netflix? All the Blockbusters closed their doors?
You fail the public trust.
