Chris Carter, David, and Gillian all at one time or another said that a romance between Mulder and Scully shouldn't and wouldn't happen and we all know how that turned out. I think a lot of actors are scared of the whole "Moonlighting" issue cropping up of giving the viewers romance too soon and then losing all the tension. But I also think that some shows do, however, do benefit from a little romance between the characters that the viewers want to get together. The fifth and beginning of the sixth season of "Gilmore Girls" where Luke and Lorelai were together (pre-April) were some of the best shows.
