I asked myself what did this illustrate? And then Goren's mom called him when he was talking to the young gambler in his cell. Aha, his mom calling.... Then later Goren talks to the young gambler about what a shock it must be to see his mother in the hospital looking so frail. To ask himself where he would be in twenty years, would he have a family, a "normal" life (as Goren could well be asking himself).
Goren with gambler kid. I think it's symbolic that his tie clip is straight as he gives advice to the kid. He tells him to tuck in his napkin, stop biting his nails, buy his mother flowers. I wonder if this kid was to become "donny" in a future episode. (note: same episode, another tie)
Gamber Kid is named Joey Frost played by Lou Taylor Pucci, who plays VDO's son in "Thumbsucker"
By the way, same episode, different shirt Again, same episode, with even another tie:
Tie Clip conclusion: His tie clips are crooked because he's messed up over his mom and probable midlife crisis, but the clips straighten when he's trying to help Joey.
Wardrobe question: What the?
Excellent analysis, Chimera. You are one smart pug! It was especially cool pointing out the crease in the tie where the clip used to be. I hadn't noticed that before.

She is coming to you to sniff for evidence in case it is too faint for you to smell. OK. I'm bagging the camera. Chimera Pug (arrives back to the ships) Shhhhh, Detective. Maybe Nicole is listening. Sniff sniff sniff. OK. The hidden device is in your tie clip. Detective Goren: (Slips off tie clip and disconnects camera) This must have happened in the Three Word Story game thread. Nicole is all over that place. Chimera Pug (touches camera lightly with paw) She must have a million pics of drooling lips kissing that thing (blush). Detective Goren: No wonder she's criminally insane.
