Adam Beach's big news On Tuesday, Adam Beach attended the Western Indian Gaming Conference at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. There he was overheard to say he's signed a 6-year, $12 million deal to appear on Law & Order: SVU. His Chester Lake character will become a regular, replacing Fin Tutuola (Ice-T), and will develop a romance with ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal).

I like Ice-T, but he's my least favorite of anyone on the show, so I'm really glad he's not replacing Munch, Elliot or Liv. So, if Ice is leaving, I'll miss him, but not that much.

I love Fin and will miss him. I am just glad that Beach will not be replacing Mariska or Chris. I knew that when I heard the news about Beach coming full time on SVU he would be replacing a detective. I am really going to miss Fin and Munch together. Now I am really sad. It just won't be the same without Fin's gangster feel to the SVU squad. Beach has big shoes to fill. We will see if he can live up to the expectations because he did not in last weeks episode.

Well, you know what that tells me? that svu will be on for another 6 years. lol But wow, if it is true, WOW. I'm ganna miss ice-t. I thought that something was up w/ adam's charecter and novak....poor ice-t! But like someone said above, better him than munch, el, or liv.

I don't think anybody mentioned it, but has anybody seen when Ice-T is supposed to be leaving? It's kinda upsetting to think that he's leaving. he's been on since, what?, the second season? but like everyone else said, at least it isn't Chris, or Mariska....

To tell you the truth,I really didn't even like Adam.I thought he sounded like a crack head.I just really didn't like him.They should let Fin stay and just let Adam have a recurring role.Can't they just idk bring in two more desks or something and bring in two new people and expand the place?That way we wouldn't lose Fin.It's gonna take a while for everyone to warm up to Chester.Believe me.A long while. Sigh.I wish it didn't have to end like this.

maybe, to make it dramatic they'll kill him? i really don't like adam's charcter...maybe as the eppys progress he'll do something to earn my trust/like of him, but as of now, i'm not too crazy about the guy. honestly, i'd much rather keep fin. he's the second part of funch....(or first if your lookin' @ the word funch) Poor munch, first he had to go through losing cassidy, then jefferies, now fin... I feel bad for munch! lol I wounder if it's ice-t's choice to leave, or if nbc didn't/doesn't want him anymore?

I am so dispappointed now i'm going to be depressed i don't like that Beach guy he just didn't rub me the right way. I'm glad for Novak getting a date. But Fin has been on SVU since the beinging of season 2 in wrong is right six years is a long time to be on a show i loved him the first time he came on i will miss him alot it'll hurt to see him go but who ever it was NBC or Ice made thier decision and i may not like it but i'm going to have to deal with it.

I'm really upset...Fin is my favorite character. If this news is true, I'm gonna need a real statement , Im gonna have a real hard time warming up to this new character.
to me this is worse than if Benson or Stabler were to leave...

It's sad, but the good thing is that Liv and Elliot won't be going. I think the 6 years is just a pre-determined, just in case if the squad does decide to stick around that long, very unlikley that it will (though I wish it would). BTW whos this Adam Beach guy?

Chester is Native american...hense the accent. It bothers me to see Fin leave and be replaced by this guy. I wonder if he is supposed to be the new "hunk" around the department? I would rather see another average looking guy/or woman around, make it more beliveable.

This all sounds so strange. Not that I'm doubting the veracity of the article, but 1) why would NBC sign an actor to a 6 year deal for a series that only got renewed for 1 season? and 2) why announce that he's replacing Fin when it was Fin that they paired the newbie up with?
For me, the $2M/year doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility given that most regulars earn decent money per episode, but a lot would depend on whether he's an every episode regular or just a 13-episode regular. If it's the later, the price seems to be a bit steep (but again, not out of the realm of possibility).
The 6-year deal is more than what I've usually seen or heard about. It's not uncommon to sign actors to a 5-year deal for a new series, but after that, I haven't heard (but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen) of signing actors to more than a couple of years at a time (i.e. like the last 2-year deal Chris and Mariska got which ends this season). Maybe the deal with Adam isn't just for SVU, but includes other projects as well. Or maybe NBC is extremely confident that SVU will last as long as the mothership and want to lock Adam in. ::shrug::
The part that's really hard for me to accept without questioning is the comment that Adam's charater will be replacing Ice-T's character. I could see it if he were to be replacing Munch because we haven't seen Belzer much lately, but why pair the newbie up with the character he'll be replacing? That, at least to me, doesn't make much sense.
What also is interesting is that this is the only newspaper that's making these statements. Variety, the industry newspaper, only reported on Thursday that Beach was in talks to become a regular, yet this other paper reports that he's signed for 6 years and is replacing a long-time character. Something just doesn't jive. It could be that Variety's falling down on the job, but that would surprise me.
